Special education

The Special Training Programme of the Finnish National Opera Ballet School (EK)

EK-courses are aimed at active ballet students between the ages of 12 and 15 and not living in the capital region of Helsinki. The goal is to support their ballet studies by courses arranged in the Ballet School’s premises to encourage their possible applying to the Ballet School’s middle level in the basic education (NA) or the vocational training (AK). The classes are divided into three age groups (EK1, EK2 and EK3).

Audition for the special education courses (EK) is held in summer during the annual Kuopio Dance Festival (www.kuopiodancefestival.fi/en/home).

There are 3 to 4 courses arranged per a school year. The content of instruction includes ballet, pointe technique, modern dance, character dance, repertoire and/or gymnastics. The lessons are given by the Ballet Schools’ own and visiting teachers.

The special education courses (EK) are chargeable and the price depends on the length of the course and the accommodation arrangements.
